Youth Leadership Board
Our youth-led board is a group of high school students from different backgrounds living throughout King County.
In partnership with the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up Initiative and WE Movement, members are committed to making a difference in their own communities as well as on a national level. The board focuses on challenges that girls and women constantly face, such as, access to education & health and being counted, heard, safe, and having a seat at the “boys’ table.”
Members create and plan activities to bring awareness to institutionalized injustices our sisters experience. Members participate in trainings enhancing their leadership and advocacy skills. With new skills, members work together to develop strategies to address flawed community norms, and advocate for, and with our sisters to ensure basic need resources are accessible to all.
Through participation, members earn their way to WE Day, and through youth-led fundraising efforts, like the annual HER Story Brunch, members take part in the annual Girl Up Leadership Summit and Lobby Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. By participating in YLB, members gain service learning hours needed for graduation, development in leadership, advocacy, and social justice skills, and the opportunity to collaborate with peers from all over the world.
It also doesn’t look bad on a college or employment application!
